Finding My Own Drawing Style

I have decided I want my own drawing style. I have been drawing a lot lately to find it.

These are some tips about finding your own drawing style that I have found helpful.

-Enjoy and study other pieces of art. Learn from this work, don't copy it.
-Carry a small notebook with you. Write down things you see or think of that inspire you.
-Listen to music that inspires you.
-Study Anatomy.
- Find something you love to draw. For example, you might want to draw animals, humans, etc.

It has been challenging trying to find "me" through my art, but I think I am getting there.

Firefly Guardians

I worked on a new mixed media piece last week. I was inspired by illustrations of the 1950's. I am trying out a new style.

Here is the finished piece.

This piece is called "Firefly Guardians". A little Thumbelina is floating down the river on an adventure. She floats into Firefly territory. The Firefly guardians try to stop her from tresspassing. Will Thumbelina make it through safely?

This original painting is now listed in my shop.

Sister- A Forever Friend

I haven't mentioned this on the blog yet but we are building a new house! We are building it ourselves with our own two hands and hammer. It is going to be adventure that is for sure.

I wanted to put something special in our girls room once the house is finished. So I did this mixed media piece of my girls.

All Done

My favorite part about the piece is texture of the snow.

And the fact that they are riding on a polar bear is pretty awesome too.

Nothing is quite as awesome as seeing yourself and your babies through Mab's eyes.

Mab a tear has come to my eye. It is such a beautiful work of art that will hang proudly on our wall. I so cherish this. Thank you so much! ♥

Make Believe

Almost two years I did my last mixed media painting. It was right before I had my last baby. Since then I have been preoccupied with taking care of my kiddos and I discovered a thing called Blythe.

But this past week something happened...a magical spark. I felt like painting again. So I pulled out a wood panel and just started....and this is what a came out.

Make Believe

You can for see how toys have influenced me with this painting. This is a lovely little portrait of a girl playing make believe with her stuffed bear in their own magical land.

I used a sealant I have never tried before until now.... Beeswax! I love it. I will never go back to any other sealant. It smells amazing and gives a lovely dreamy effect to painting too.

This original painting is now available in my etsy shop. Link is above.

Chirp Chirp Chirp

Sorry for the chirping crickets. I have recently moved to a new little town and I have busily been unpacking and trying to get a new routine around here.

Unpacking

It's strange, I'm kind of dealing with some culture shock as well. I came from a mid sized town and this town has nothing but the essentials. Plus EVERYONE in this little town owns an ATV. It's kind of a big deal around here. I have only ever been on a ATV once my whole life....so hopefully nobody wants to kick me out of town for not having one. haha.

Anyway, I managed to finish a small project I have been meaning to do. I found this huge frame at thrift store. It was an icky gold color. I spray painted the frame green, added some chicken wire inside the frame, and it is now a clip board.

I think it turned out kind of cute.

Working in an Art Journal Tonight

Tonight I thought I would post a peek of 3 pages in an art journal I have been working on. This journal's theme is inspiring quotes.

Working in an Art Journal Tonight

These pages say...Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air.

I love how the girl turned out with sun and sea behind her.
